Grand Slam Title Decider
WALES v FRANCE
SATURDAY 17th MARCH
Millennium Stadium Caidiff

15.00: The Millennium Stadium tool is left open on French insistence, as France kick off in slippery conditions. Toby Faletau gathers.

3 mins: Brilliant running from Wales: Jonathan Davies almost makes it down the left. Wales are all over them, playing with breakneck pace.

12 mins: PENALTY Wales 0-3 France. Wales dive in. Easy score for the visitors against the early run of play.

22 mins: TRY Wales 7-3 France. Fabulous cut inside from distance by Alex Cuthbert, simple conversion for Leigh Halfpenny.

33 mins: PENALTY Wales 10-3 France,. Halfpenny again as Wales build a half-time lead. It would be bigger had Rhys Priestland and Halfpenny not each had a penalty unluckily hit the post.

HALF TIME

Wales’ Sam Warburton misses the second half with a shoulder injury and Ryan Jones is on.

35 mins: PENALTY Wales 10-6 France. Wales under pressure now as France close the gap

54 mins: PENALTY Wales 13-6 France. Good answer! Halfpenny with the kick of all kicks, from in side his own half. France keep pushing.

74 mins: PENALTY Wales 13-9 France. A fine Jamie Roberts tackle averts disaster, but from the scrum France win a simple penalty. Four points in it again; the game may yet turn on a single try.

76 mins: PENALTY Wales 16-9 France. French discipline fails! Halfpenny’s kick is true. A frantic final five minutes follow.

80+1 mins: Priestland kicks for touch to end the game. One try separates them at the end. And it’s a Welsh try. Cue jubilation, as Wales win their third Grand Slam in eight seasons.

Final Score

Wales 16 – 9 France

Penderyn is proud to salute the Wales Rugby Union team with this, our third limited edition Grand Slam release. Wales Coach, Warren Gatland, can be proud of his men, as we all are.

Dr Jim Swan’s Tasting Notes

The original Penderyn in this bottle has been aged in ex-bourbon barrels and finished in ex-Madeira wine casks to bring out its full golden character. It has a classic freshness with aromas of cream toffee, rich fruit and raisins. The palate is crisp and finely rounded, with sweetness to balance an appetising dryness. Notes of tropical fruit, raisins and vanilla persist in the finish.
