In 1886, William Grant fulfilled a lifelong ambition by building his own distillery. He named it Glenfiddich, Gaelic for Valley of the Deer and on Christmas Day 1887 the first drop flowed from the stills.
As the first release in our new Malt Master Edition, Sherry Cask celebrates the skills and traditions of our Malt Master. It is the first Glenfiddich to be double matured in two different casks.
One of the traditional arts of the Glenfiddich Malt Master is the way in which he marries individual casks of different ages and character to produce a harmonious whisky. It is a balancing act based on experience and skill.
After maturing in traditional Oak Casks for a number of years, our Malt Master transfers the whisky into Sherry Casks for its final years of maturation. Each batch is hand-selected delivering a unique and subtle difference.
Each batch is unique, delivering a rich whisky that is complex in flavours imparted from the different woods. At first taste sherbet and zingy, which slowly turns to spicy and tempting flavours of plum and cherry with hints of toasted almonds and wedding cake.
On the nose damp earth and whisky-soaked wood intermingle with deep vanilla and smoky embers. Deep and ruby red in colour. Silky smooth finish.
