Auchentoshan Heartwood. Balance: it is what every whisky craftsperson sets out to achieve. Heartwood combines the perfect balance of rich whisky aged in Oloroso Sherry casks, with a nuttiness from bourbon cask maturation.
Matured in Bourban Casks
Before we fill these casks they have already brought an American Bourbon to maturation, typically for four years. We combine different sizes of bourbon casks – hogsheads and barrels – to mature Heartwood. These help create light, citrus and creamy vanilla flavours.
Oloroso Sherry Casks
Oloroso is Spanish for ‘scented’. No other cask had quite such a profound effect on single malt scotch whisky – creating a rich, dark and nutty liquid. The whisky also takes on unmistakably full body.
We Always Triple Distil
Taste is everything. That is why we always have, and always will, triple distil our whisky. This collects the highest concentration of new make spirit in Scotland. And it gives Auchentoshan its unmistakably light and fruity flavour. With time, the spirit matures inside fine oak casks, creating deeper colours, fuller flavours and a distinctive smoothness. It is uniquely Auchentoshan.
We are the only distillery in Scotland to triple distil every drop we create, just as we did in the 19th century. It is tradition we’re proud to uphold. We can’t imagine making our single malt scotch whisky any other way.
